Hello Michelle and listers,
I have been a contract braille proofreader for both Braille
International, Inc., and the Hadley School for the Blind. A couple of local
braille transcribers have contracted with the Education Service Center,
Region 4 in Houston, and therefore, I have sub-contracted with the above
agency by reading these transcribers' assigned books. I have done
proofreading both with and without a copyholder, a sighted person who
follows along in the print copy while I read the braille. This contract work
has been done at home; however, I have to do it mostly on my days off when I
am not working my full-time job for Marriott Hotels. If you are not a
proofreader, please call NLS at 800-424-8567, and ask for John Wilkinson. If
he is not there, leave a message, and he will return your call. I hope this
helps. Perhaps some other members of the list can give you some other ideas.
