Hi Nicky, stenography is a career that has long since bit the dust.
Picture a company executive asking his secretary to take a letter as he
verbally dictates the content to her...it was always a her. <grin>
You might want to bring that job into it's 21st century title, executive
secretary, where you do everything on computer from letters to reports
to memos to minutes of a meeting to research, copying, faxing,
collating, etc. If you do find any blind people working in this field,
or any one sighted, for that matter, I would love to hear about or from
them. Good luck in your quest! Continue researching medical
transcription if you enjoy (or don't mind) a job that is very sedentary,
requires excellent keyboarding, grammar, punctuation, spelling and
proofreading skills. Accuracy is paramount. A good book, in my
opinion, to check out a variety of career opportunities in the fields
where you have the most skills and interest is "Cool Careers for
Dummies". It is easy to read, describes many mainstream and
not-so-mainstream jobs in short paragraphs and provides you with the
websites to each career's professional organization for further in-depth
research. Good luck in your quest. Pam Maxon

Hello. My name is Nicky and I am trying to decide what my next career
should be. I am going back and forth between Medical Transcriptionist
and Stenographer. They're both about equal in my mind. I was
wonderinf if there were any blind Stenographers who I might contact to
see how they do there job. I know some blind Medical transcriptionists
already. If anybody has any ideas please feel to email me either
privately or on the list. Thanks in advance.
