Susan,
   I am currently in Amarillo, West Texas in the great high plains and Texas 
Panhandle. I relocated here about 8 years ago from Colorado where I had been 
an administrator and academic. Currently I consult for the U.S. FDA in D.C. 
and go back and forth as necessary. I became visually impaired post the 
relocation.  Hope you had a good fall and Thanksgiving. We used to reside in 
Rochester,MN many years ago and spent a lot of weekends in Minneapolis-St. 
Paul. My own plan is to relocate to a very large city or urban area very 
close to a big city like NYC, Boston etc. I like to travel, like cultural 
activities etc and without the ability to drive it is more challenging to do 
these things in non-metropolitan areas. I did manage to see Phantom of the 
Opera with the NYC cast in Las Vegas over the Thanksgiving week and it was 
great. I am not a desert fan but Las Vegas is one of the closest venues to 
the Amarillo and West Texas.  I wish you the very best in your search. Keep 
your spirits high, your focus on your goal and all will work out.)

(P.S. Caribou Yukon is my 242 lb. Alaskan Malamute sled dog who has also 
been my assistance dog. He is the light of my life and a giant puppy who is 
very strong and can carry a lot for me.)
