Description:
The mission of the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence
is to end domestic violence through advocacy and action for social
change. This
position is an integral part of an agency team committed to
multicultural programming and organizing. The position has a specific
focus on domestic violence
and disability co-advocacy. The Coalition's Disability Advocacy Project
facilitates statewide and community-based partnerships among domestic
violence
and disability advocates and promotes increased access to quality
support services for people with disabilities who are victims of
domestic violence.
Responsibilities:
.Work with the Disability Advocacy Project program coordinator to carry
out the goals of the Disability Advocacy Project
.Research areas of critical concern using resources including, but not
limited to, RCW, WAC, library resources, newspapers, interviews, and
academic research
.Compile information using Access databases
.Carry out the goals of the Disability Advocacy Project and work with a
multidisciplinary team of diverse advocacy-based organizations and
social service
agencies. Tasks include assessing current domestic violence/sexual
assault/disability advocacy partnerships, providing technical assistance
to advocates
and advocacy organizations in person, by email, by TTY, and over the
phone, training, problem solving and information/data collection
.Write informational summaries and analysis for Coalition publications
and web site
.Monitor media coverage of domestic violence related to people with
disabilities, public policy and advocacy issues
.Provide clerical support to the project including, but not limited to,
typing, filing, copying, mailing, and running errands
.Participate in Coalition staff activities and specific duties as
assigned
.Perform all work in a culturally responsive manner consistent with the
Coalition's mission and principles of unity
Additional Qualifications:
.Familiarity with the civil, criminal justice, and social service
systems and community-based organization responses to domestic violence
and/or familiarity
with social services and community-based responses to people with
disabilities who are survivors of intimate partner violence
.Ability to be diplomatic and tactful while maintaining a strong
advocacy perspective
.Experience advocating for domestic violence survivors and/or people
with disabilities who are survivors of intimate partner violence
.Experience working in collaborative partnerships with diverse
disciplines
.Excellent written and verbal communication skills
.Ability to speak in public and facilitate large group discussions
.Familiarity with Word, Excel, Access, Outlook
.Willingness to travel
