Friends & List Participants:

I am pleased to share with you the news that the National Federation of the Blind, Jernigan Institute, will sponsor an awareness workshop for employers interested in hiring blind or low vision candidates to be conducted at the University of Washington on Friday, July 28, 2006. While the focus of this workshop will be on employers who specialize in the fields of mathematics and science, all potential employers are invited to attend where the basic detail that we plan to share will be equally applicable to any interested employers. Additionally, job-ready candidates for employment are invited to attend this seminar so that they may take informal advantage of opportunities to network with hiring organizations.

Copied from the NFB website, please see below the brief marketing detail posted regarding this occasion. Although this message invites people to contact my colleague, Anne Taylor, people are, in fact, welcome to communicate with either of us. Finally, attached to this message, please find the registration form for this seminar and the text of the announcement provided below:

This one-day workshop is intended to introduce employers in science, technology, engineering, and math industries to the capabilities of employees who are

can contribute to a productive, diverse workforce. In an informal, open environment, employers will be able to ask all the questions they never thought
they could ask and will learn about the techniques, technologies, and strategies that successful blind employees use.

During this seminar participants will:
List of 6 items
* Learn about their own misconceptions about blindness
* Gain a better understanding of blindness and the capabilities of blind employees
* Be able to better identify outstanding candidates for employment who happen to be blind
* Understand the technologies and techniques used by blind individuals in the workplace
* Understand how blind employees manage tasks from email and project management to travel for business across the world
* Be better prepared to find qualified blind employees to contribute to their company's goals and mission
list end

If your company has an interest in finding qualified talent that is currently under-represented in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields,
this seminar is for you. Take advantage of this tremendous opportunity to learn about blindness directly from the experts-blind individuals who are leaders
in education, training, technology, and employment.

Please complete the
registration form
and return it as soon as possible. Direct questions about this workshop to Anne Taylor, Director of Access Technology, National Federation of the Blind
Jernigan Institute, at (410) 659-9314, extension 2413, or send an
email
and include the words "Employer seminar" in the subject line of your message.

I am looking forward to visiting with any of you who may choose to avail yourselves of this opportunity. Further, if you know of employers who would benefit from this program, please take the initiative to share this detail, and the attached registration form, with them. We hope this employer education project proves a benefit to both businesses and blind people in the Northwest.

Thank you.
