Hello. Thank you all for the ideas about having or not having an objective
on a resume. I'm sorry to say that as an employed rehabilitation counselor,
our agency doesn't provide up-to-date training about acceptable or current
resume trends. I get a lot of my information from books or lists like this.
I really like the concept that one does not have to have an objective on a
resume. So many of my clients are looking for a variety of jobs and I think
sometimes that big objective statement on the top of their resumes hinders
their search. It's either too obvious they want that position or people
have a very hard time formulating a good objective and it shows on the top
and their resumes are ignored. With that said, I wanted to ask something
else about resumes that I struggle with on my job and I've often debated
about for my personal resume. What are the current formatting trends for
resumes. How can a resume appear at its visual best? I fight with our job
placement person a lot about this because she refuses to change her ways.
She likes to put skills statements in paragraph form and just uses a lot of
old design techniques. I really have a problem with her because she still
likes to put "references available upon request" on resumes, especially for
those that do not contain a lot of work history. I cringe but I'll say that
I love where I work. Thanks again for your ideas.

Charlotte
