Position Opening: Travel Coordinator

Reporting Relationship
Director for Refugee Resettlement

Position Objective
To serve as primary LIRS liaison and coordinator for case processing and 
case placement with assigned regional offices.

Qualifications include...

    1.. Commitment to Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service's core 
mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationship with 
colleagues, and partners; commitment to refugees and immigrants
    2.. Bachelor's  degree with coursework in the social service field
    3.. Experience in the refugee field strongly preferred
    4.. Computer literacy with experience in working with database and word 
processing software
    5.. Ability to work under pressure with close attention to details on a 
timely basis
    6.. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    7.. Ability and willingness to travel overnight periodically
    8.. Knowledge of and sensitivity to cross-cultural transition issues
    9.. Ability to work as a member of a team
    10.. Knowledge of general office management and procedure

Responsibilities include...
1.      Coordinate travel arrangements for refugees and immigrants from 
their points of overseas departure to their final U.S. destination.

2.      Ensure timely communication of arrival information, including 
scheduled changes, deletions and transfers, to LIRS affiliates.

3.      Serve as primary liaison between LIRS and the International 
Organization for Migration (IOM) on refugee travel matters.

4.      Ensure the timely reconciliation of arrivals on a monthly basis with 
affiliates, the finance department and the Refugee Processing Center (RPC), 
including the following:

·       downloading data files from the RPC to the Reception, Placement and 
Loan System (RPLS) database,
1       notifying affiliates of LIRS's listing of arrivals at the conclusion 
of each month,
2       maintaining the LIRS arrivals reconciliation finance charts,
3       communicating changes in arrivals in a timely fashion, and
4       performing quality control of the RPLS files to ensure accuracy.

  5.      Maintain and ensure the integrity of refugee arrival statistical 
data on a monthly basis, and report LIRS arrival statistics as required.

  6.      Review and process affidavits of relationship (AORs) as assigned, 
including assuring that AOR forms are completed as required by the client 
and local affiliate representative. Identify AORs with errors and, as 
necessary, return them for correction to affiliates with a checklist 
indicating the problems. Assign a pre-case ID number to assigned AORs.

  7.      Ensure amended AOR information received from affiliates is sent to 
the RPC to update the file.
  8.      Identify any patterns of problems completing AORs so that 
technical assistance can be provided to affiliate staff.

  9.      Work collegially as an effective department team member to achieve 
the agency and department's goals. Participate in the refugee resettlement 
unit's program planning.

  10.     Undertake other job-related duties as assigned.

Salary and Terms
This full-time position, based at LIRS's headquarters in Baltimore, is 
subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act. The salary, in grade level 3, is 
negotiable and commensurate with experience. An excellent benefit package is 
offered.
