AAPD Open Position: Program Manager
 of Mentoring and Leadership Programs

American Association of People with Disabilities

The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), a 
national membership organization that advocates for political 
and economic empowerment for children and adults with 
disabilities in the U.S., is seeking a program manager who will 
report to the Senior Director of Policy, Outreach, and Field 
Activities. The program manager, a new position at AAPD, will 
be the principal staff person overseeing AAPD's leadership 
development and mentoring/career exploration activities  a 
vital part of the organizations mission. The Program Manager 
will be responsible for developing and expanding the programs 
to a new and higher level.

AAPD operates programs in five core areas:
  Disability Vote Project (DVP)
  Leadership Development
  Disability Mentoring Day (DMD)
  Public Policy, Advocacy, and Research
  Member Benefits and Communications

Responsibilities of the Program Manager:
1. Serving as the national coordinator for Disability Mentoring
   Day (DMD) which includes:

   a. recruiting, training, and communicating on a regular
      basis with the local and state coordinators; 

   b. acting as the point person for Disability MentorNet,
      AAPDs premiere online mentoring program; 

   c. creating print and other curricular materials; 

   d. maintaining DMD website materials; 

   e. developing and overseeing a plan for DMD activities
      in Washington, DC; 

   f. promoting and representing DMD and AAPD at local and
      national mentoring conferences and committees which
      also includes speaking engagements; 

   g. assisting the Senior Vice-President for Development
      with securing federal and private funding; 

   h. and evaluating the program on a national level and
      reporting to program funders.

2. Overseeing the national summer internship programs which
   includes both Congressional and Technology interns,
   including: 

   a. developing and disseminating program materials; 

   b. establishing and implementing application review
      processes; 

   c. securing internship placements in congressional and
      federal agency offices for all interns; 

   d. arranging all logistical considerations for the
      summer (travel, housing, stipends); 

   e. coordinating with multiple vendors; 

   f. developing professional development seminars with
      leading disability policy and I.T. professionals; 

   g. budget implementation; 

   h. annual program evaluation; 

   i. providing material/information to be used for
      continued program funding; 

   j. providing reports and materials to program funders; 

   k. working to ensure reasonable accommodations are
      provided in housing and workplaces; 

   l. and acting as a liaison to interns and employers.

3. Overseeing the Leadership Awards programs including: 

   a. developing and disseminating program materials; 

   b. establishing and implementing application review
      processes; 

   c. ensuring recipients compliance with award
      requirements in the ensuing 12-month period; 

   d. ongoing evaluation of the program objectives,
      implementation, and impact; 

   e. and providing appropriate materials and data to
      solicit continued program funding.

4. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:
  Must have at least undergraduate degree;
  3-5 years of program management experience, preferably with
   supervisory experience.  
  knowledge of and experience with the disability community; 
  excellent analytical, organizational, and communication
   skills; 
  ability to relate to people from different backgrounds and
   experiences; 
  strong MS Access or Excel experience preferred;
  and a self-starter but willing to be part of a team approach.
