New National Consumer Coalition's hiring a DC Rep:

 

 A newly forming National Coalition of Consumer/survivor-run
Organizations is seeking a Director of Public Policy. The person would
be the Coalition's voice in DC. 

Pay: 

The person would be paid as a consultant: $30,000, a year for 15 hours a
week. 

Qualifications: 

1. Strong advocate: capable of and having demonstrated an ability to
make their voice heard in meetings with county/state/ national insiders,
legislators, and administrators

2. Experiential expert: personal experience as a mental health consumer

3. Representative of the coalition: person can represent the coalition
in a diplomatic fashion even with people having opposing views, letting
their own views predominate

4. Self-starter: person is capable of self-direction and time management
in day-to-day matters

5. Values of Mental Health Consumer Movement: Understands and shares
values of recovery, consumer self-direction, and peer support

6. Effective communicator: able to understand implications of policy
issues, communicate relevant issues, develop responses through dialogue
with the Coalition, and articulate our agenda to a broad range of
stakeholders using various communication venues (e.g., words. written
media, etc).

7. Network builder: able to advance our agenda by developing
collaborative relationships with appropriate representatives from other
coalitions constituencies, and legislators and/or their staff

8. Knowledge of the federal government structure: how legislation,
policies, and rules are enacted, and an understanding, particularly, of
the committee process

9. Computer skills: mastery of computer, power point, and Internet
skills
