POSITION TITLE: Employment Specialist (Services for the Blind)

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
· Minimum of a bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, special education, business,
human services, or a related field.
· Experience and knowledge of industry, employer expectations, and safety procedures.
· Knowledge of disabilities, functional limitations and job accommodations.
· Knowledge of job development and job coaching services.
· Ability to communicate effectively personally and in writing.
· Ability to interact appropriately with consumers, referral agencies, employers
and key staff.
· Must be able to work flexible hours to conform to the consumer's employer
requirements.
· Must have access to a safe and properly insured automobile and provide proof
of comprehensive automobile insurance.
· Must have an Alabama
driver's license and be able to be covered by AIDB insurance carrier.
· The successful applicant must submit to a criminal history background information
check including, but not limited to FBI and ABI record repositories.
Upon offer of employment, the applicant must present a non-refundable fee of $49.00
and appear for scheduled finger printing appointment.
AIDB is sensitive to the needs of Blind or Visually Impaired and Deaf or Hard of
Hearing and will make reasonable accommodations for qualified applicants and employees
that do not impose undue hardship and are not essential functions of the job.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assess client's job readiness skills through performance based assessments.
· Instruct clients in proper methods and techniques for successful job search,
including proper dress, attitude, how to interview, etc.
· Work with other job development staff, in securing employment and overcoming
barriers to employment, for Gentry clients.
· Establish on-the-job training opportunities and assist with transition to
work.
· Make contacts with businesses and State Employment Service regarding placements,
job leads, and public relations.
· Arrange and assist clients with job interviews.
· Responsible for placement and follow-up both on-campus and community job
training opportunities, for our clients.
· Perform job coaching duties.
· Work with staff in resolving problems that impact consumer's employment.
· Maintain appropriate records of client progress and write monthly progress
report.
· Maintain documentation in client files regarding services provided.
· Cooperate with administrators, instructors and other staff.
· Be a positive role model for our clients.
· Attend all required in-services and staff meetings.
· Other duties as assigned.
SALARY: $34,647 - $52,115 Scale PI Rank 53
This is an exempt position, and is not
subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
