Hi, Dustin, thanks for this reminder. Then, at our Advocacy Meeting, we can
form strategy and determine who will make public comment.

CTA Bus Stops, Raised Print and Braille, Draft Statement to the CTA Board
Blind and visually impaired people are entitled to the same information that
CTA makes available to sighted passengers. That is, Braille and raised print
bus stop signs at bus stops should give the same information available to
sighted passengers - route number and name, and destination.
Years ago, CTA prepared and installed informational signage giving
comparable information at rail station to comply with federal regulations
implementing the Americans With Disabilities Act.
The need for information in these formats becomes critical at "Combo Stops,"
that is, bus stops which several routes serve.
In recent months, the National Federation of the Blind of Illinois, Chicago
Chapter, has met at a location with several nearby bus stops. Several bus
routes serve all these bus stops. Most bus stops in the downtown area have
several routes serving them. For example, the northbound bus stop on
Michigan at Huron has a raised print and Braille sign which reads simply,
"Bus Stop," giving a blind or visually impaired passenger less than complete
information.
Not every blind or visually impaired passenger has an extensive, city-wide
knowledge of CTA service. We urge CTA to work with the National Federation
of the Blind to improve information access pertaining to blind and visually
impaired CTA riders.

Subject: [IL-Talk] NFBI Chicago Chapter Advocacy Committee Meeting on
Wednesday, June 19th at 7:00PM via Zoom
Greetings all,
The NFB of Illinois Chicago Chapter Advocacy Committee will be hosting a
meeting on Wednesday June 19th at 7:00pm via Zoom to discuss the upcoming
CTA Board Meeting that will take place on June 25th.
As part of our ongoing efforts to advocate for improved signage for CTA
riders who are blind and low vision at CTA bus stops, we are seeking your
active participation in providing in-person public comments at the upcoming
CTA Board Meetings. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 25th
at 10:00am.
The problem: Bus stop signs for print readers provide information including
the bus number and route, while the Braille signs simply say Bus Stop. We
are looking to have the same information on the signage as CTA print readers
do.
The CTA Board Meetings offer a crucial platform for us to voice our concerns
and advocate for positive changes that will enhance accessibility for all
members of our community. Your input and presence can significantly impact
the decisions made by the board regarding this important issue.
If you are a Chicago resident, and would like to see action for these bus
signs, then please join us this Wednesday. June 19th at 7:00pm. Please find
the Zoom link below.
