Good morning,
My daughter owns and runs the FIRE House Gym in Johnsburg, IL. I act as
her Office Manager and am in charge of developing a new All Star Cheerleading
program for “special” athletes (“special needs” as defined by the USASF).
Our program is offered to children and young adults, boys and girls, ages 5 –
25. Our head coach is a Developmental Therapist and an experienced
Cheerleading coach. Our volunteer staff consists of junior coaches who are also FIRE
cheerleaders and will be on the floor with the team when they perform.
We will practice one hour per week and our team will participate in the ‘
exhibition’ portion of competitions with our other AllStar Cheer teams. The
cost is $25 per month and the program runs for 10 months of the year (June
through April). The other costs (uniforms, competition fees, etc.) will be
deferred by donations and sponsorships.
We are not affiliated with Special Olympics. Our coaches are USASF
credentialed and our program meets the USASF guidelines for AllStar Cheerleading.
Competitive cheerleading builds physical fitness, coordination, self-confidence
and discipline – it also brings out the best in everyone involved. We are
one of 7 gyms in Illinois that offers this program.
The most challenging part of starting up a new program is getting the word
out. I am asking if NFB would be willing to help us spread the word…bring
this opportunity to the community…whatever that might involve. I could provide
brochures and flyers; I would be more than happy to speak to groups about
this opportunity. Anything you can offer as a way of helping would be greatly
appreciated.
I am attaching a copy of the flyer. Please let me know if you would like me
to come in to meet with you personally or direct me to the appropriate
person. If you would prefer I mail the flyers and brochures, please provide a
name and address.
Thank you for your support and consideration.
