I received this at work and thought that some of us might want to try and be involved in volunteering for the olympics and events running up to the olympics. What a great way for us to showcase our talents.

Greetings:
I have recently been appointed the Director of Volunteer Programs for Chicago
2016, the Olympic Bid Committee. I am responsible for developing and
coordinating the Committee's volunteer efforts, along with wearing several other
hats. My chief responsibilities include recruiting and retaining volunteers for
events hosted or supported by Chicago 2016. While the selection for the 2016
Olympics is months away, we must embrace as many opportunities as possible to
showcase our talents, spirit and enthusiasm for the Olympic and Paralympic
Games.
Our very first opportunity to show the world that Chicago is the best city to
host the 2016 Olympics is only weeks away. Chicago 2016 is supporting World
Sports Chicago as it hosts the 2007 AIBA (Amateur International Boxing
Association) World Boxing Championships. This is an Olympic qualifying event for
the 2008 Olympics. More than 600 athletes from over 120 countries will be in
attendance. This event will be held at the UIC Pavilion from October 23, 2007 -
November 3, 2007.
I am personally asking that you come out in full force and support this great
event by volunteering and/or attending the event. Volunteers are actually needed
from October 15, 2007 - November 5, 2007. Volunteer roles include, but are not
limited to hospitality, competition management, language translation, community
outreach and more. ( VOLUNTEER MANAGERS ARE NEEDED FOR THESE ROLES AT THE
VARIOUS VENUES. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ONE OF THESE
POSITIONS.) All volunteers must register on-line at www.worldboxingchicago.org
or www.chicago2016.org . Ticket sale information can also be obtained by logging
onto the World Boxing Championship website. For complete details of the event
and our volunteer opportunities, please log onto the above referenced websites.
If you decide to volunteer, please let me know. All volunteers are required to
submit to a formal background check, but as a City employee, this requirement
will be waived. For this purpose, I am keeping a list of all employees who
volunteer
Note: The AIBA World Boxing Championships will be the largest international
sporting event that Chicago hosts before 2009, when the Host City for the 2016
Olympic and Paralympic Games is chosen. Be a supporter and pass this information
along to your family, friends and favorite organizations. We need your help and
support to show the world that we have what it takes!
Thank you.
