Hello Everyone,

This Sunday, August 5, 2007, the Illinois Association of Blind Students will
hold a Board Meeting via the Conference Call. I've been assured that the
quality of the service has improved. Therefore, please call
605-475-6222
at 8 PM and enter password 4227 (IABS).
We have a packed agenda, so please arrive on time.
I am sad to convey that David Harlow has stepped down from his position of
Treasurer, effective the Board meeting. David is very busy searching for
employment and has had a number of family commitments that have led him to decide
to resign his post. We wish David luck in his endeavors. I'm sure that
David will continue his exemplary service to IABS in other ways. Thank you,
David, for working so hard to promote the highest standards of excellence among
blind students in Illinois.
I am also sorry to report that Tiffany Jolliff resigned her position as
Board member just before convention. Tiffany has had a number of changes in her
life, including the arrival of her new guide dog. As a result, she feels
that she is unable to maintain her post in light of some of the demands it would
impose on her in the coming months. Tiffany has served IABS in a myriad of
ways, and her hard work and dedication were instrumental in some of our
activities this past year. I am confident that Tiffany, too, will continue the
charge to change what it means to be a blind student. Good luck, Tiffany, with
your endeavors.
Late last winter, the Board established a policy of appointing individuals
into vacant positions if time does not permit the calling of a Business
Meeting. In light of the fact that the IRS requires that we have a treasurer in
place at all times, the Board will appoint people to serve in this as well as
the Board Member roles at the meeting this weekend. We will discuss whether
or not it will be necessary to confirm these appointments by vote of the
members, and if so, will do so at the next business meeting.
In addition to the Board appointments, we will discuss the following:
- Meet the Blind month
- State Convention including IABS Idol, IABS Outing, IABS workshop,
Fundraising, NABS Rep, Teaching Excellence Awards, Scholarship Luncheon, and other
topics.
- Schwan's Fundraiser
- any new business
Please join us this Sunday night at 8 for what promises to be an
action-packed IABS Board meeting.
Regards,
Ronza Othman, President
Illinois Association of Blind Students
