Excellent Tiffany. Thanks for bringing this up. And thank you David for your thoughts as well. This technique only works under very limited conditions...and thank goodness I can testify to that first hand. On September 1, 2002, I was crossing
18th and N in Sacramento. It was quiet with the only traffic so far down the street
I didn't hear them. And to top that off, neither did Jeremy, my seeing eye dog.
But it still didn't keep that speeding pick up truck from hitting us anyway. No matter what, with a cane or my dog, I would have been hit because neither of us heard that guy coming. So, to anyone thinking of using the Echo technique and nothing else, think again.
We walked away but Jeremy eventually died of his injuries. Cane, dog....whichever
you choose, use one of them as one more way of protecting yourself.
