Those funny character sequences starting with equal signs were not from dictation; that's something that
seems to be happening on a number of lists within the last month or two. Those are actually misrepresented
single characters, but that would take some explaining.
For anyone more technically inclined: I think somehow some messages are getting translated more than once
through the "quoted printable" encoding, where "=" and two hex digits represent a character. I say this
because
* =3D in that encoding is an equal sign.
* =3D20 would thus translate into =20.
* =20 is a space in that encoding.
