Hi Yiska,
Congratulations on being close to finishing up your hours! I wish I had answers to all of your questions but I have still been trying to figure some of these things out for myself so if anything I can say: solidarity. :-)
I too used Theranest and had accessibility issues with it, but that was four years ago. I have seen some postsin the Facebook group for “blind and visually impaired therapists, counselors, and social workers” indicating that some folks have been finding this platform to be accessible, which is surprising and encouraging, though I don’t know what version of the platform or access technology they are using. I have heard that Simple Practice and Therapy Notes are the most accessible EMR systems from a number of Blind/low vision folks.
Are you planning to go into private practice as a solo practitioner or joining a group practice? Would you be able to have either a visual assistant or use Aira for reading handwritten material? I believe that the other EMR systems I mentioned may have options for the forms to be filled out electronically And signed electronically by clients but I recognize that doesn’t fully resolve the issue because you will still receive records/materials with handwritten information from other agencies and from clients.
I don’t know if any of this was helpful at all and I wish I could help more, so I will be curious to see what other feedback you receive and I’m wishing you all the best!
Sincerely,
Sarah
