 Response to student question
You cannot count on university to help find you an internship.   You should try to find an internship on your own.   Although there may not be many internships in your local area you could try to find a remote internship.    The organization I run, Visionary Solutions, a 501c3 is trying to find interns currently, but I don't know if the duties would match your interests You can contact me at michaelbeattie at yahoo.com    I do not know how your vision might impact interviewing.   However, it may be that there body language or visual cues that you miss and as a result do not perform as well in interviews.     The Americans with Disabilities Act precludes policies and standard operating procedures that have a tendency to screen out people with disabilities.   I suspect that a lack of success in three interviews is the type of criteria that might screen out applicants with disabilities.    Therefore, you would need to ask for "reasonable modification" of policy.    If you have an employer interested in hiring you it wuold be difficult for university to deny your request.

Hello, my name is Anny Safier and I am an incoming MSW student at
Binghamton University. I was recently informed by the field department in
my school that because I have had three interviews without success in
finding an internship for this year, I will not be able to start field
instruction in the fall. Out of the three interviews I had, one did not get
back to me for months which wasted time for me and another place ended up
not having enough room for interns. Timing is unfortunate, with the term
beginning in two weeks. While I was applying to different internships, I
received no feedback from the department who was setting up the interviews,
until they explained to me that I would have to wait either until the
spring to start field or another year. My internship last year was
significantly impacted by issues within the agency, causing me to have
between three and five months worth of practical experience instead of a
full year. If anyone has had similar experiences and/or could give ideas
about how to move forward in applying to internships for the spring or
figuring other ways of approaching these kinds of issues, I would
appreciate it. Thank you. Anny Safier

Good morning,
Sorry you?re having such difficulty. Long ago when I was in graduate school, I experienced some of the same issues you are now encountering. The school provided me with a placement that did not give me sufficient experience and exposure to the field. We had to petition for the school to give those us were impacted Alternative placements that would meet our needs. The only thing I can suggest to you is that you try to get some information about your interviews, including any suggestions on how you could improve your presentation. Happy to talk off-line about this further if you like, as I have had 45 years of experience in the field.
