I just discovered how to change the view mode in Yahoo mail if it isn't behaving how you like.
On a desktop, press Insert and the number 3 (on laptops, it's Caps Lock, 3.) Then, press Shift and V. You can change the order the subject and number of messages are shown in. You can have the subject, then number of messages, shown, or the number of messages shown, then the subject.
