[GUI-Talk] searching PDFs and trouble reading them in Firefox

Madison:

Searching a PDF will only work if what you are looking at is real coded text
as opposed to a picture of text. I can tell you what I do to search PDF
documents hoping that some of what I am using works for you.

First and foremost, I prefer to read PDF documents using Adobe's Acrobat
free software. In so doing, I have to load the entire document into memory
and search using the JAWS Find command: CTRL+JAWSKEY+F. The down side with
this approach is that large PDF documents that are more than fifty pages
long do take some time to load. If formatting is not an issue for me, after
I open the document in Acrobat, I copy and paste (formatted text) the entire
thing into a blank Word document. This approach usually deletes any useful
tagging that might be imbedded in the document such as header tags, links,
etc. But in most situations, this approach is all I need.

In terms of web browsing, I long ago gave up on Mozilla Firefox. Today, I am
using Google Chrome, which works with JAWS. But I should point out here that
Edge and Brave, both of which are now Chromium-based, also work well with
JAWS. The folks who developed and support Firefox have expressed a desire to
ensure that Firefox is accessible to everyone, but in my experience, Firefox
has issues which (for me, at any rate) have discouraged me from continuing
to use it.

I hope this helps.

Respectfully,

Curtis Chong

Subject: [GUI-Talk] searching PDFs and trouble reading them in Firefox

Hi all,
I know that this can be done in Word but is it possible to search within a
PDF
and if so how do I preform a search? Firefox is my default browser but I
find
that I often have to switch to Edge to read PDFs as Firefox seems to be
really
slow at loading them and I don't know why but it's rather annoying. I think
I'm
using the latest version; is there anything that I could do about this?
Having
to switch to Edge everytime is rather annoying especially when you're
already on
a site. Using latest versions of JAWS and Windows 11. Thanks for any help
that
anyone can provide me!
Madison
