There are really two different parts to your question. Will K-1000 work with Windows 10 and what about the upgrade process.

First, I am running K-1000 Version 14 with Windows 10 and it works fine. However, it is hard to say if earlier versions had any compatibility problem or not. Programs that ran under Windows 7 seem to generally run under Windows 10, but there is no absolute guarantee. If your version is much earlier than Version 14, upgrading might be a good idea for this and other reasons.

There are a number of things that can happen when you upgrade to Windows 10, and it can be necessary to have to install software again. If you depend heavily on K-1000, it probably makes sense to get an install disk even if it is frustrating. If you don't have the latest version of K-1000, it might be easiest to upgrade and get the install disk for that version at the same time.

Upgrades to K-1000 are not free. If you can't afford to upgrade, I would still recommend that you jump through the necessary hoops to get an install disk in case you need it. If you talk to them, they might be able to tell you if the version you are running will work all right under Windows 10 as well. Remember, though, that if you upgrade K-1000, you also get later versions of the FineReader and OmniPage OCR engines as well.

Probably more significant than software, there have been some changes that cause certain hardware not to run under Windows 10. Particularly some old scanners and printers did not get drivers for Windows 10. If your scanner is somewhat new, you should not have an issue with that, though.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Subject: [GUI-Talk] Upgrade to windows 10 and its impact on kurzweil 1000

Dear all.

I am not sure what would be the appropriate forum to ask this question. So, I am trying my luck here. I am planning to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10. I am wondering if my existing kurzweil 1000 will be compatible with windows 10. I have lost the installation disc and kurzweil makes it quite difficult to send replacement disc . I just wanted to be sure about the fate of Kurzweil and associated .kes files before upgrading to Windows 10.
I will appreciate any information regarding compatibility of kurzweil 1000 with windows 10. And whether upgradation can happen without disturbing the existing appplication as is the case with any other compatible application.

Thank you for your responses in advance.

TP
