[gui-talk] wireless connection very slow

Stan,

If I understand Sherri's note, it is when she is at a friend's house when
her connection is slow and the technician is finding that the speed is all
right on other equipment. Also, it does sound like she is using an XP
computer. One possibility is how her friend's router is set whether it is
set to support 802.11B, G, and N, and what options her computer has. This
setting may have been changed when her friend changed providers. Some
increase might be experienced if the router is set to only support 802.11G
and N as I understand it. Sheri, is the speed of your connection when at
home still good, and am I understanding the problem correctly above?

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Hi,

Two questions:

How old is your Dell computer? (Is it XP vintage too)
How old is the router installed or provided by your cable provider?

While there may be tweaks to improve your wireless speed that can be made
within Windows XP, your router may need an upgrade, or at the very least, to
be reset. Your cable provider should be able to assist you with this issue
as you have already suggested.

Regards,
Stan
