Good afternoon David,

The new version of Kindle 5.x for iOS has been optimized for the blind and visually impaired. I looked the the specs for the $39 model and it doesn’t suggest it has enhancements for the visually challenged. Most newer Kindle Fire devices to have stereo speakers in order to play audio books. I sent an email to the department at Amazon that provides support for our needs. I am waiting for a response.

Did you see any described feature some where that will make the Kindle Fire more accessible. I actually had one of the $39 Kindle’s that I bought for my brother-in-law who is sighted. I will have my daughter bring it over so I can test it out for accessibility.

P.S. Text the word BLIND to 85944 to donate $10 to the NFB Imagination Fund via your phone bill.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
