Yes, you are correct.  Webvisum has indeed become an abandoned add-on, much 
to the detriment of blind computer users like us who depend on it to solve 
image captchas for us in the absence of sighted help.  The Webvisum 
development team no longer responds to email inquiries, and it is apparently 
unsigned, which means that it will not work with Firefox 43 without the work 
around I described in my previous message.  But this work around is only a 
temporary fix because starting with Firefox 44, it will not work.  This 
means that starting some time next year, Webvisum and other add-ons that 
many of us depend on to work with Firefox will no longer work. 
Unfortunately, there is no real alternative to Webvisum for solving 
image[captchas except for Rumola,a paid program which has received mixed 
reviews for effectiveness from the few users who have tried it.  The use of 
image captchas continues to proliferate and absolutely nothing is being done 
to reverse this trend.  Even Amazon.com now confronts blind customers with 
image captchas when they attempt to change or create a password.  For more

I'd like to add my thoughts on this issue.
I was once quite the fan of Webvisum and used it regularly. However,
several years ago the Webvisum.com site was hacked, where the material
was changed and replaced with other material which would sarcastically
say the opposite of what it originally said, such as how bad Webvisum
was as a product. Eventually, the site was restored to a state of
normality but I haven't seen any updates and I get the feeling that
Webvisum has become an abandoned product. Also, Webvisum is not a part
of Mozilla's official addon repository. These two facts make me very
jittery about installing and using this addon. If my perceptions are
wrong and if Webvisum is not abandonware I'd really like to be
corrected. However, if the site was hacked I can't help but wonder if
the addon itself may have been compromised. I'd feel better if Webvisum
became a part of addons.mozilla.org because then I'd know that Mozilla
would likely check to make sure it's safe to use. Personally, I use
Rumola, which solves captchas and which is available from Mozilla's
addon site.
