Win-8 should have it's own restore portion on the HDD which you should 
update on a regular basis. If you want a backup, a real backup that you 
can depend on if or when your HDD goes south, you have to use external 
media. Use either an external HDD, a pen drive of suitable size or 
consider using a cloud service. If you have any info of a sensitive 
nature don't use the cloud unless you're also ready to encrypt your 
drive and use as secure a connection as you can.

For best accuracy of rebuilding a compete backup method down the road, 
consider using a utility that can make a mirror or clone of your entire 
system. That way you can use it to reinstall everything from your system 
operating files to your personal files on a new HDD if the need arises.
