[gui-talk] The weirdest computer problem

That's what I am thinking. I am hoping the book didn't get destroyed, but we
shall see. I was able to delete the shortcuts and I was careful so most of
my desktop icons are still there. At first, it wouldn't let me delete
anything. This kind of stuff only happens to me. Thanks for all your help.

I would guess that a Daisy 2.02 book got unzipped to your desktop folder.
Since it is difficult to get the desktop to display itself in a list form,
you may have to figure out what folder the desktop is stored in, and use
Windows Explorer to select and then delete those files. The desktop might
be under "c:\documents and settings\username\desktop" where username is your
own login name on that PC. Even if you are the only user, I would guess
that this is where you should look. There are other possibilities. Another
possibility might be to put Windows Explorer on the root directory of the C:
drive and use the Find command (I use F3) to locate one of those SMIL or MP3
files by its name, and note what folder it is in. Be careful. Deleting
shortcuts from the desktop doesn't delete the programs that they point to,
but it would be a hassle to find the programs and put shortcuts back in
place.
Hope this helps.

I certainly hope someone on this list can help me. I am running Windows XP
Pro with Jaws 12. Today, somehow my laptop got unplugged and the battery
almost ran completely down. Once I plugged it in, I finally got it started
back up, but when I went too my desktop, there were over 600 icons on it,
lots of MP files and SMIL files. I don't know what they are. I have run a
virus scan and it checks out negative. What on earth could be going on and
How do I get rid of all these extra icons? Thanks.Sherri Sherri Brun
