[gui-talk] k1000 and scanner questions

Greetings all --
I am running on XP and have installed an old copy of K1000 version 7 and my 
Lide35 scanner.
All seemed to fit together happily on my system, but for some reason when I 
go to k1000 and try to scan, the scanner starts making noises like it is 
working, but then everything locks up.
Does anyone know why this might be happening and how to get around it?
I installed the software for the scanner which I downloaded from a canon 
site.
K1000 is finding the scanner fine, but everything stops there.
