Hi Not sure where you may have read about Last fm not being accessible, but
unless things have changed in the last 24 hours it works great, and I'm
totally blind. Of course the future is always a question, Remember CD baby
was accessible and now it's not. We must always be sure that blind have
access to the web just like our sighted friends.

I pledge to participate actively in the efforts of the national federation
of the blind to  achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind;
to support the policies and programs of the federation; and abide by it's
constitution.

Well it is actually more than the user interface that is inaccessible here
and so that is going to be a problem. It is actually the layout of the
content and that problem is not an overnight solution. All the publishers
face this same problem, do you allow your content to be published in an
accessible format by an outside source or do you do this in-house. Of
course it is very expensive to do this in-house and so the current
solutions
are the Bookshare and other types of formats. So the books available are
the ones the publishers don't mind if they the loose sales revenues and not
the new books.

Hi list members, Ken here. A recent post to the Gui-talk list brought up
Pandora Internet Radio, and a string of posts recently brought up the CD
baby upgrade that has left blind out. Both of these are because of the
dreaded flash applications that screen readers can't see. While we work
on CD
baby, here is an alternative to Pandora. Especially since it appears that

pandora is of the opinion that they must be financially stable before the
access issue can be addressed. It will mean years before we have access
to
it. So to get there attention let's take our Internet listening of a
personalized nature elsewhere. Visit _www.last.fm_ (http://www.last.fm)
and join
it. When you first sign up, go to where it says profile and you will see
a edit field where you type all the artists you want separating each with
a
comma. The functionality is very much like Pandora. I can't listen
cleanly myself because of Dial up but based on the artists I entered I
tested
four or five stations and Boy! I can hardly wait to ditch dial up. So
until
we win the fight with
CD baby and Pandora _www.last.fm_ (http://www.last.fm) and enjoy.

I pledge to participate actively in the efforts of the national
federation
of the blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the
blind;
to support the policies and programs of the federation; and abide by it's

constitution.

Hi, Microsoft Security Essentials, the best free antivirus/antispyware
solution, is what you need and that's all.

I forgot what it's called, but it's that free security program you
download
from Microsoft.

Someone said it's the best free antivirus program around, now. Does that
mean I should install it on my new laptop, and maybe also on my desktop,
where I would have to uninstall Avast! free edition?

Also, is it also an anti spyware program, or just antivirus? I'm running
super Antispyware Free Edition as well as Windows defender on my desktop,
and I'd like to know what's best to do against spyware on my new laptop
and
also whether I should use the same thing now for my desktop and get rid of
Super Anti Spyware and Windows defender.

That's a lot of questions. I hope someone can follow them.

Thanks very much,
Joel

I'm thinking of getting a printer I could use from my desktop, netbook,
or pocket PC. Bluetooth or IRDA would seem to be convenient.

Does anyone have a favorite? One they hate?
TIA

I've never had a wireless printer, but I think that IRDA is rather a bad
idea - the computer and the printer must see each other optically so it
can
be even more troublesome than using a cable.
By the way, I don't know if printers using IRDA are manufactured.
