Thanks. I'll keep this for reference, but if you don't mind, I hope I won't 
need to do any of this on my own. I've never used Narrator, I confess. And 
at this point, due to illness, I don't have the energy to face more learning 
than I already am looking at with a new O.S., a new version of Jaws with 
some of its new tricks and foibles, and probably a new version of Word and a 
new email client, too. That's a lot for me. I'm not looking to get the NFB 
self-sufficiency prize for learning how to use Narrator at the moment. No 
offense intended.

One other thing I thought of: presuming you can activate the right
button, you can bring up the Ease of Access Center and tur Narrator
on. Though Narrator is still not a full fledged screen reader, it's
gotten better. The voice they had in Vista was easier to listen to,
rather than that drunk old man from XP Narrator. I believe that Alt U
brings up the Ease of Access Center, and then Alt N activates
Narrator. Or, you could just open the start menu and type narrator and
see if it shows up. You might need help initially starting it, but
should be good to go once it's started. When I was initially setting
up my new Windows Vista computer last year, I was able to bring
Narrator up in the setup process and use it through the whole series
of steps, at least until I got JAWS installed and running. This really
impressed me. There were no major hickups or problems, aside from
getting Narrator to not come up each time the UAC control appeared,
grin.
