[gui-talk] Netbook specs

Hi Wayne,

Netbooks are evolving very fast. About 3 months ago, I bought an Asus
EEE PC 904HA. It came with Windows XP Home. It came with 1 GB RAM,
which i upgraded to 2 GB. It has a 160 GB HD. It has the Intel Atom
270 processor running at 1.6 GHZ. I am using Window Eyes, MS Office
2003, etc. Everything works great. However, since even then, new
models have come out. There is a new Atom processor that runs at 1.66
GHZ. I believe that the Intel video chipset uses 128 MB of RAM for
video. These machines are more than powerful enough for the average
user, much less the average blind user. But the big advantage is
portability. I have no problem just tossing it into a briefcase. Prices
run about $400, but there are pricier models coming onto the market,
with larger screens, more features, etc. But for a blind user, the less
expensive Asus, Acer, Samsung, and MSI models are just fine.

Andy

Subject: [gui-talk] Netbook specs

Greetings. I'm working on a project for work and am wondering about the
best case sinnareos for having a netbook: e.g., how much RAM/hard drive
space/video should a netbook have to run JAWS, Office 2007, and other
software someone might use on a daily basis? Also, though this is a
dangerous question to ask, which netbook model seems to be the most
popular among the blind and other computer users?

Many thanks,
Wayne
