Before I answer this question, I wanted to make a correction. The last line
of my previous mail on this thread was regarding skype.
I had said, "One year of incoming and US Canada unlimited calling costs
around $60 per year."
Now to answer your question, it does not require a phone line but you can
use a regular telephone with it. You plug it in one of the USB ports. the
hardware will automatically install the required software. Magic Jack uses
the internet connection from your computer. You can make and receive calls
on your pc, or you can hook up a regular telephone in the phone jack
provided with the magic jack. In this case you can use your regular phone to
make and receive calls. Your computer needs to remain turned on even when
you are using magic jack on your phone.
