I, for one, believe this deserves some official action by ALL groups who
claim to represent people with visual disabilities.

Claiming that rendering text via text to speech makes that an audio book
for copyrights purposes is crap.  So, what seems to be needed is a
specific amendment to copyrights law to indicate this is not the case,
and can not be construed as such.  Furthermore, amend copyrights to say
that unless the author offers an accessible product at the same price as
others, no copyright shall exist.  Along with support of the law comes
responsibilities in my view.
