It was a sneaker. I was happy enough with 7 that I was willing to leave
well enough alone.

don,
Huh? I haven't even been approached by MS to download IE 8. They hounded me
to death to upgrade to IE 7, and I held that off until I darn well felt like
trying it. What do you mean, this is what happened to most of us? Who are
most of us? How does this happen in such a way?

I think that's what happened for most of us.

In my case, I didn't install it, I turned on the computer one
morning and there it was.

Hi Jim,

I understand most of this, plus I'm not surprised to know that if you
install IE 8 it sort of cements itself into your system. I think that's
something about it integrating with Windows, whether we like it or not. I
know there were big legal hassles at various points over whether or not
Microsoft ought to be allowed to so fully integrate some of its stuff into
Windows, just like this sounds, and I thought it was eventually ruled that
they had to make apps like IE behave like independent programs, not let them

get so embedded into the operating system. But I'm probably way behind on
how this all went.

But one thing I'm surprised to hear you say is that tabs are some sort of
problem, at least for you. Tab browsing was introduced into IE with version
7, which I installed quite some time ago, by now, and after studying up on
the Windows instructions online about how to use it, and seeing some screen
reader tips somewhere to help with that, I never found tab browsing to be
anything but fun and convenient except when I didn't feel like doing it that

way, which was not any sort of problem to me, either. I can use tabs or not
use tabs, without any hassle at all. I honestly don't get where you're
coming from, unless what you're saying (implying, really) is that the last
IE version you were comfortable with was Version 6, before tab browsing was
introduced in Version 7, which as I say, is a while ago by now.

So while I sympathize with whatever your problems have been, that part I
really don't get. I don't know if I remember where I filed any instructions
for myself a long time ago about how to use tab browsing in IE 7, but no
matter. If you'd like to ask any questions, or want me to explain a bunch of

steps and take the mystery out of it, just write me off list and I'll do
what I can. I'm telling you, this is not hard at all, and I'm willing to
explain some basic things that may make you think the same, no matter how
worried about it you may be. Once you get the basic concept, there are only
a few novel keystrokes to learn and remember.

Just if you want the help. If not, no problem
Joel

Joel,
He's trying to resolve a problem I have. IE8 has inexplicably and
apparently permanently installed itself into my computer. I have now given
up on uninstalling and learning to live with. It's not beta anymore, good
buddy. The tabs and security settings are messing me up but it is coming
along. It has some nice features but overall I don't recommend it. I
understand firefox will also feature these tabs. They're a nice thing for
the sighted.
Jim

Al,

sorry if I'm coming in late on this, but how come you're trying to uninstall

IE 8? I am not even sure if it's in actual release yet, is it? If so, is it
what a reasonable guy like me (haha!) should do, replace IE 7 with it and be

up to date? Or is it sort of a Beta version and you're not happy with
something about it, so you're trying to get it off your system?

as I said, sorry. I just never have understood what's the deal with this
version and whether it's sort of the mandatory new thing and I'm falling
behind.

And I do hope you figure out a way to clean it up or get it off your system,

if that's what's necessary right now.

I can find the icon but 8 won't uninstall. In fact the process won't even
begin after clicking for it. Does anyone know of a good uninstallation
program? I can't find the one I had and can't remember its name. thanks
