The uninstall for XP depends on whether you have Windows XP SErvice Pack 3
installed or not.  If you have it installed you have to remove it and then
unistall Internet Explorer 8 to go back to Internet Explorer 7.  That is
probably the problem.

IE 8 has limited functionality in JAWS 9 and is supposed to be compatible
with JAWS 10.  It is not compatible with JAWS 8.

You can set automatic updates to prevent the instant download of new
programs from Windows.  But a lot of people had this overrridden by Yahoo
which updated to IE 8 without asking anyone and thus cut off the blind who
had an earlier version of JAWS or Windows Eyes to theri email.
