Ed, how did you reach that individual from Qualcomm? I'm trying to help a
friend open attachments in Eudora 7. She is consistently told that Eudora
can't find the file, even though it is in the folder that is used for
storing attachments. I never had this problem which I used the program, and
can't figure out what to do about it.

Thanks.
Dean

Here is the followup on my previous question. Perhaps it will be of help to
someone else.

Following is information for opening attachments in Eudora from Qualcom.

Ed,
We had talked earlier today about opening attachments in Eudora - the
following is
just some standard info:
Attachments don't open when clicking on attachment icon
Document ID: 1409HQ
Eudora does not open attachments, however, it does send and receive them.
The attachment
icon that gets displayed in the message is a shortcut to the actual file
that resides
in your attach folder. When you click on the icon, Windows should open the
right
application associated with that type of file. Windows will look at the file
extension
to figure out which application is the appropriate one to open files of this
type.
You must have the appropriate program to open such a file. If Windows has
registered
this file type incorrectly, you may have to open the appropriate application
and
select file/open browse to that file to open it.
The following is a very good tutorial on our website that talks about what
happens
when you open an attachment in Eudora:
http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/tutorials/win_attachments.html
Note if you do attempt to open an attachment like for example a Word
document that
might look like "joe.doc", but you do not have Word installed on your
machine then
the attachment definitely will not open. If you do have the application but
the file
is still not opening it might be because the file type is not associated
with the
correct program on your machine. So if you were to open Windows Explore,
then select
Tools/Folder Optioins from the toolbar, and then select File Types you can
actually
see what file types you have associated with what programs on your machine -
and
you can change them if you wish. This is how an attachment is opened in
Eudora:
- You click on an attachment
- Eudora puts out a call to Windows saying hey go ahead and open this
- Windows checks to see what program is associated with that file
- Then Windows uses that program to open the file.
Hope this helps,
Joe
