[gui-talk] Daydreaming about PC laptops. Any comments?

don't worry. Now that I realize they're smaller than notebooks, which have
gotten pretty nicely compact as far as I can tell, I'm not interested. I
want something bigger than a toy, with a keyboard meant for adult hands and
some RAM and a CD ROM drive and stuff. Never mind with the Net thing.

Joel, they're the next smallest category of laptop computers.
Now, it's a fairly large division so you won't be able to purchase based
based on net book as a descriptor. Consider searching some of the tech
reporting on The New York Times. They'll have articles devoted to your
better understanding of them.

chris G.,
'm willing to believe you without doing a lot of research, Chris. I just
need a few more words, understand? Tell me that "net" doesn't mean a
primitive little box equipped with just a screen and a keyboard with no
innards except whatever will allow it to go online and do everything there,
not just email or Web brewing but world processing in the Cloud, too, See? I

thought that is what "netbook" mean. But it seems you're saying it's simply
the next smallest thing below the size of a laptop.

That's all I want. Some conversation. Not a technical debate complete with
URLs and published research articles. Just teasing, but you get it? I've got

concerns, and have to figure out what will be adequately portable for me but

*not* underequipped or with too small a stock keyboard.

Go to amazon.com or any electronics store and do a search for netbooks
and look at the specs.

Also, I have a friend that has one and He has installed Window-eyes on
his netbook.
