[gui-talk] In IE 7, Control E has changed for me

Hi L.,

No, I'm talking about something you don't seem to be familiar with. I know
how to change my home page if I wish to, and I don't go into Control Panel
to do that. Just into the IE Options. It's easy. I described a special edit
field you can bring up to type a search term into using the command Control
E. Now, maybe this is a Jaws 10 feature, even though the Insert key isn't
involved, which would tip me off that it was Jaws related. But anyway, it's
not about a default search page or a home page issue, either. I think you
and I may not be using the same programs, or ells my description would have
rung a bell immediately.

Hi Joel -- I didn't see any other answers to this so here goes -- If you
want to change your default home page (I assume that is what you mean by
default search provider), whatever browser you are using, you should go to
control panel under internet options. Open the dialog to the general tab
and the first item on the list is your home page. Enter the URL of the one
you want then follow the prompts to the ok button.
You can also get to the internet options dialog from within IE under the
tools menu, but some things Windows doesn't let you change when you have the
browser open, so I myself always use the control panel.

I completely forgot the instructions about how to do that. I remember
reading something, somewhere,a long time ago when I first installed this
version of IE, and I don't remember where i saw something once. In IE Help?
Or some other place?

I tink I read

I think you'll have to change your default search provider.

I'm accustomed to being able to bring up a Google search edit field from
whatever Web page I may be on by pressing Control E. And Jaws would always
speak that it was Google and then say "edit." Those who use IE7 know how
this works.

But just recently, every time I press control E while on a Web page, it
takes me to a search edit function but Jaws says inbox.com search. And if I
go ahead and type something in and click on it (Enter or Alt Enter for a new

tab page), the results page says inbox.com, and the results are just a
couple of headings instead of the way a Google results page is coded, and I
haven't even bothered exploring with the up and down arrow keys and the tab
key to see what's there that letter H navigation isn't revealing to me. I
just feel tricked, as if somehow the function got hijacked away from Google.

I have no idea what inbox.com is, or how something with a name like that
happens to provide a search engine. And I don't care. Now, if I go to
Google.com, I still get the real Google search page, and everything's fine.

But what is this inbox.com deal? Please note: I do have a respectable
anti-spyware program that I keep updated and run a scan with regularly.

Thanks.
