[gui-talk] Fw: google has changed and searches are now difficult

P.S.

If what I say below makes me sound pretty low tech or like a dumb newbie or
something, look. I have serious medical problems that leave me with so small
a store of energy for concentration each day that if I take the time to
experiment any more than I once did briefly with this feature, enough to
tutor myself in it even though I may sound pretty inept to more skillful
users who "get" stuff like this more intuitively, then that may expend all
the useful energy I had available to me for accomplishing actual work that
day, which is very demanding mentally for me. I would have to mess with this
on what people would think of as a "day off," sort of. If that sounds
extreme and like I'm making a big deal out of something others have picked
up like lightning with the smallest bit of effort or annoyance in the
process, so be it. I'm not quick with stuff like this, so my computer skills
are learned with the expenditure of more time and effort than such knowledge
and expertise may cost others to acquire.

that's all for now. I'm not messing with this any more at the moment. thanks
for understanding.

I'm not averse to change as a matter of character any worse than anyone. I
just am reluctant to spend the time it would take me to retrain myself to
use this feature. I really don't care about it one way or there other and
would rather just do without it. What's the offense in that? What's the big
deal? A lot of people probably feel that way. I'm not amused or helped by
this new function. Others are, fine. No problem for me at all. None. No dog
in fight. End of story.

I was sort of tipped off when the guy stated his problems began shortly
after installing jaws ten. This new forms feature is such a convenience but
people just don't seem to get it. It's automatically invoked for sighted
users but we didn't start out that way and people are averse to change.

I got that by inference eventually even though I must have not realized what

he was complaining about, I mean the connection he was mistakenly making
(just because you start from a link Google has given you doesn't mean that
what happens then has anything to do with Google's search function) until a
long time later, when the few people who had tried without even getting any
response had mentioned like, umm, well, I think they offered a new toolbar a

couple of weeks ago or something...

What a merry-go-round that was. it was just about Web browsing, not about
Google. So shoot me for getting confused. I believed the subject line meant
what it said, kinda. :-)

You have to read the whole message. The person goes on to say he can't get
out of the page he's been sent to with the backspace key as people usually
can. He thinks this has something to do with that the search procedure has
changed. It doesn't but he thinks so.

P.S.

I just reread the subject line of this thread, and it's says "Google has
changed and searches are now difficult!" Now, doesn't that sound very much
like "Google search has changed and now searches are difficult?" I'd still
ask, "difficult in what way?" But it doesn't sound like it has anything to
do with the backspace key. In fact, what does the bakckspace key have to do
with anything, anyway? Does the person actually mean the Back command, or
Alt left arrow? They can't get back from one Web page to the one from which
they just came? What would that have to do with Google Search? I'm really
confuddled, as my bright 12-year-old friend said to me today about something

else. I think I'll go to bed. It's going on midnight out here on the West
Coast.

If you decide it's important again it's a thirty second operation.

yeah, I did all that stuff. Believe me. It's not worth my messing with
anymore. I really do know what you're talking about, though. don't have time

to mess with this stuff anymore. Life's too short. Knocking wood on that
one, these days.

Usually when people can't get Gmail to come to their in boxes it's because
they haven't enabled pop from the settings on the web page.

I didn't notice anything, either. I've already got a blocker working in IE
7, and I some time ago invited somewhat personalized search results ordering

by subscribing for a Google Mail account, which I don't actually use because

I hate their online interface, and although I did indeed study up at the
Fred's Head companion page recommended by Top Tech Tidbits and follow the
directions carefully, I can't get it to work right using POP3 and my OE. I
don't really care. It was just a goof, for remaining extra anonymous in the
cyberworld sometimes. No big deal.

Anyway, I haven't encountered some sort of new problem, either. Ggoogle is
googling along just fine for me.

Actually he is right, but you had to OK the change. A few days ago
google
asked if you wanted them to employ the change, I did and it did
change--i.e.
using their pop-up blocker, the way searches were displayed etc. but
turn it
off under view toolbars and it'll be back to normal.

I can't tell you what's wrong but the problem doesn't lie with Google.
I
use it often and that doesn't happen to me. You may begin by checking
your
search settings. Also, if you're running the latest version of jaws you
may
have the new auto forms feature enabled and not set properly.

Subject: [gui-talk] google has changed and searches are now difficult

Hello everyone,
I have always enjoyed using Google and has always found the information
which I have searched for easy.

Google has changed and I find it very difficult to find the information
which I have been searching for.

Did Google make a big change or did some of my settinhgs cause this
problem?

Sometime Google will only provide me with one choice and I cannot get
out of
that site by pressing the back space key.

Can someone provide some info on my problem?

Thanks, Tom Blume
