You mean the person might be using tabbed pages? didn't think of that.

Be sure that you have not set the option to open up results in a separate 
window.  This can be handy, but it also means
the BACKSPACE and ALT LEFT ARROW can't go back.  If you ALT TAB around and 
find your result as well as the
original Google screen, then it has opened in a separate window.  You can 
close it with ALT-F4, though.
