[gui-talk] google has changed and searches are now difficult

I won't read archived messages, thanks, not back a long way just because
things have been stated imprecisely. Life is too shoartt. I believe the
problem may actually be something like this "problem" doesn't mean
"possible solution":

I entered a search string in the Google edit box. I found the Search button
and pressed entter.

After a small fraction of a second, up came an announcement that the first
20 or so of my 360,000 search results were now on the page, preceded by a
few paid advertisement results. So far this was just as it always had
worked.

When I pressed Enter on the link of the first result that interested me from
that list, it loaded the Web page of that link, and so now I was on the Web
in general, on my own, and no longer actually in the Google domain. Just
saying that as a matter of keeping things cearl.

Now I started to fear something must be the matter with Google. Because when
I discovered this page didn't suit my needs, I pressed the backspace key ai
was not returned to the Google search page. Just for instance. Could have
been a few pages deeper by that time, of course. and nothing happened.

If the problem stops there, the answer is that it isn't the backspace key
you hought to have pressed. Boing back to the last page you visited isn't
called "back spacing."

But if in fact, that was something like a typeographical error or a brief
slip of the mind and you really did mean that you pressed the correct back
control, alt left arrow, and it would not reload the previous page, then
your browser is stuck where you are for some reason. Maybe you're trying to
back up to the Google start page but its engineers have suddenly changed the
appearcnce of the page so that it now contain a bunch pof photos and
graphics that your browser is taking ages to download because your
connection speed happens to be modest. Check your subject line Insert down
arrow for message that might suggest this.

So what is the actual problem?I'm not asking what the solution is. I'm
asking for a description of what actualkly happens, in other words, what's
the problem? I can't see a problem except for one detail that I man actually
have missed, and thus am suffering for not knowing. Have you abandoned
browsers like Internet Explorer and Firefox and you're now using the brand
new Google Browser I've heard about? And it is misbehaving?

then that's a different question. Stilll, you must say whether you think
it's the browser that's acting bacly or the Web browser when you click on a
search result and get out of the browser's search page.

thanks very much for the clarification.

It was and is about Google search but he couldn't get the browser to go back
a page when he wanted. You have to read the last message first to
understand beccause you've forgotten how the thread ran.

Whatever. I thought the whole thing was about Google search. If it's not,
that's different, and i'm not following that. Thanks.

I noticed someone say that somewhere along the line, but I didn't remember
it being the basis of thread. In fact, what I remember was something about
that Google Search had changed in some way and had become hard to use, in
some way that wasn't clear to me.

Not arguing. Just don't get this.

The person who initiated the thread had a problem using the backspace key to
go back a page in the browser on the google site.

Hi,

How does the issue you're addressing here relate to the question as to
whether Google has recently become less accessible to use?

thanks very much.

On some pages, for whatever reason, backspace doesn't work. the other
Windows keystroke to go back a page is Alt with Left Arrow. Try this
and see if it solves the problem of not being able to go back a page.
I wish that headings were used to indicate each result on Google's
other search pages, such as the groups search. Give me a page with
headings and I'm a happy camper.
