[gui-talk] Ad-Aware 2008 is now Available

All right. I've downloaded and installed AVG Free Edition Version 8. I had
to play with the Jaws cursor a bit in order to make sure I checked or
unchecked the options offered to me in various dialogues of the install
wizard, but I got it done okay.
and except for a couple of quirky things, like when I launch the interface
some sort of context menu pops up and blocks my access to the interface so
that I have to alt tab once, it seems to navigate okay in most important
ways.
But as you may be aware already, I have one issue I can't fix without some
advice. My email is showing as if it has an attachment, when of course it
doesn't. Past experience tells me that all I need to do is turn off the
certification message for outgoing email. In Version 7.5, that stopped the
attachment symbol from appearing on my emails when they arrived at their
destination.
So I looked at the help documentation, found out where to go for this,
opened tools/advanced options/Appearance and with a lot of fumbling around
with the Jaws cursor, because you have to do some tricky things to get a sub
menu to speak, I thought I unchecked the box by certification. In fact, when
I opened the menu again and checked with the Jaws cursor (it won't appear to
the PC cursor or the tab key) it did say it was now unchecked. But when I
send out an email, Jaws still sees an attachment symbol, which I'm sure
everyone on the list is seeing too.
Anybody have this particular issue solved, yet? I've done my best and can't
seem to manage this. Thanks.

Well, okay for you. But if I asked around and enough people whose opinions I
respected said they'd tried it and it really couldn't be managed with Jaws,
I wouldn't likely waste my time downloading and installing it and going
through agonies just to realize that I couldn't access the controls. That
doesn't seem stupid or lazy to me. Does everyone have to reinvent the wheel
for themselves? But that's just in my humble opinion, of course.
And believe me, AdAware `1.06, without scripts, doesn't allow you to get
around the controls and do things without feeling like a drunk coming home
in the dark and fumbling around for the light switch and tripping over the
furniture. Now that is how I feel when I'm down to the Jaws cursor level of
operating an interface. I don't care to mess with that if I don't have to.
It's not a point of pride for me, as it is for some people on the lists,
although I'm glad they feel good about their competency and everything.
Well, we shall see. Something or other.

Just a friendly suggestion here, but you could always try it and see.
If it doesn't work, just uninstall it. Besides, what you consider
"usable/accessible" might differ from another person's definition.
Yes, JAWS scripts can make a difference withs some programs, but
sometimes, they're not needed.

Wayne
