ah, okay. So you're responding about it but you aren't using it. Gotcha.
Thanks.

Well Joel, as to whether or not AVG version 8 is accessible with JAWS, I
cannot give you a straight answer because for some reason, Windows always
shuts it down. I can tell you , though, from what I've seen of the first
time run wizard, which did work, that it is indeed not very accessible.
Sincerely,

Ray,
My whole problem with this is that Version 8, which I assume is what you
downloaded, is said to be no good at all with Jaws. See what I'm saying? You
have not said this yourself, and neither has Don.
So his explanation wasn't clear to me, either. But this is my problem. This
is why I'm concnmered and don't just want to download V. 8. Haven't either
of you experienced problems operating it with Jaws? haven't you heard anyone
on other mailing lists saying it's no good with jaws? I'm puzzled by these
responses. From what I gather, no one on the JFW list is replacing their
Free edition 7.5 with free version 8 for exactly this reason, and that's why
there's been discussion all over the place about what would make a good free
replacement until the AVG development team tweaks the interface to make it
more jaws accessible.
Hope this is clear.

All I can tell you is that the very same thing hit me just last week Joel.
I reckon it's about up for 7.5; but, mind you, this is based on the
happening you describe. I should warn you that, when I did download the
file they recommend, and tried to run it, I got a warning that some files in
the installation were corrupt and the patch (or what ever it was) refused to
install. The dialog advised me to download another copy.
Sincerely,
The Constantly BAREFOOTED Ray

There's been some discussion about what would make a good replacement for
AVG Free Edition Version 7.5 so long as the new version 8 is not yet screen
reader accessible lately. Avast! sounded pretty good to me, but I was hoping
I wouldn't have to switch and spend time learning to set it up and run it.
Well, the time may have come. This morning, AVG plunked some sort of
dialogue on my screen. Jaws wouldn't read the contents of the dialogue
except to say, when I pressed Insert B, that Insert B would reveal that I
was to press Enter twice to close it. I played with the Jaws cursor to no
avail. Blank, blank, blank, blank.
So I hit Enter twice, even though Insert E wouldn't identify the active
control, and a Web page opened urging me to either upgrade to the paid
Version 8 Security Suite or at least install the new free version 8
antivirus program.
yet only a few minutes before this happened, my AVG 7.5 faithfully performed
its usual morning update on itself, same as ever. There was no mention on
the Web page when 7.5 would actually expire, and if there was such a notice
in that pop-up dialogue, Jaws couldn't find it or anything else.
Anybody know? Is this the end for AVG Free Edition Version 7.5? I was hoping
the AVG people (I see they no longer go by the Grisoft name) would fix up
the interface of Version 8 so it was Jaws accessible before 7.5 expired.
Sigh.
