Hello Mike,

In the meantime, though, while we await further Constitutional amendments 
and legislation, why don't we start seriously advocating for that which is 
simply the right thing to do?

Ah ... but it took both passage of the Fourteenth Amendment, Supreme
Court rulings and passage of civil rights laws to change the legal
situation for blacks.

As I've said, I favor declaring cyberspace a place of public
accommodation. But for better or worse, we aren't there yet and aren't
likely to get there for some time.

  And I wasn't knocking the site nor the necessity of figuring a way to
  deal with CAPTTCHA's. I was merely saying that the way we write
  sometimes it is almost as if we've forgotten the fact that we don't
  always need technology to solve our problems.

  No one ever said blindness wasn't a nuisance. And I, like the next
  person, am irritated by sites I cannot use effectively. But if I
  *really* want to use a site, I am not above waiting until I can
arrange
  to have the visual detritis read for me. It isn't ideal but it works.

  I fear, however, that I am a voice in the wilderness. And I readily
  admit that such monstrosities as CAPTTCHA's cut into productivity in
the
  workplace and elsewhere. But then to my mind, forcing one to use the
web
  when a simple telephone call would do *also* cuts into productivity!
