[gui-talk] Fwd: Captchakiller.com

Ah ... but it took both passage of the Fourteenth Amendment, Supreme
Court rulings and passage of civil rights laws to change the legal
situation for blacks.

As I've said, I favor declaring cyberspace a place of public
accommodation. But for better or worse, we aren't there yet and aren't
likely to get there for some time.

  Hello Mike,

I don't believe any reasonable blind person is going to claim that
sighted
readers are never needed or shouldn't be utilized. The point is that
technology is here to stay and it ought to be accessible. CAPTCHA is
special as it inherently excludes us when it is delivered in only a
visual
  manner.

When African-Americans were barred from service in places of public
accomodation such as restaurants, or were served separately, they
found it
much worse than simply "irritating". Similarly, accessibility
evangelists
find visual only CAPTCHA to represent nothing less than a "no blind
people
allowed" sign when it does not reasonably accomodate accessibility
concerns.

I wonder the same thing, i.e., how long it'll be before the site is
inundated by unwanted traffic, i.e., a denial of service attack.

And I wasn't knocking the site nor the necessity of figuring a way to
deal with CAPTTCHA's. I was merely saying that the way we write
sometimes it is almost as if we've forgotten the fact that we don't
always need technology to solve our problems.

No one ever said blindness wasn't a nuisance. And I, like the next
person, am irritated by sites I cannot use effectively. But if I
*really* want to use a site, I am not above waiting until I can
arrange
to have the visual detritis read for me. It isn't ideal but it works.

I fear, however, that I am a voice in the wilderness. And I readily
admit that such monstrosities as CAPTTCHA's cut into productivity in
the
workplace and elsewhere. But then to my mind, forcing one to use the
web
when a simple telephone call would do *also* cuts into productivity!

Does anyone know how this site works, whether they employ people to
read and retype captcha's all day or if they have an automated
solution?
  I wonder how long
it will be before the site is overwhelmed by spammers?
