One thing I have been thinking about is that another approach might be
appropriate.  I find that driving directions are often not good walking
directions.

If I put a starting and ending point in Google Maps, I can get distance and
directions, but I can't find out which streets I must cross to get there.

Another issues is that I sometimes act as a sort of navigator for my wife.
When I get directions between cities, I would like to know what town and
cities we go around or through to get there, not just that we go 75 miles on
I65.
