[gui-talk] HELP! -- anybody have Norton?

Hey Albert -- Thanks for the offer -- I don't know how to turn it off. I
just assume it is always the windows login id it is asking for. But why
does it prompt all the time and where can I configure this thing? I think I
will start on the desktop icon for Norton and see what I find.
Other ideas welcome. I want this system to be as clean as possible. My old
one was a disaster and full of malware. I don't want the same thing to
happen on this machine.

TIA

There's an option in Norton Security to protect Norton with a password. You
may have it turned on by default. when you enter the password, is it the
same as your Norton account's password? or, is it the same as one you use?
There are a couple of other possibilities which we can explore further if
either of these isn't the one.

When is this happening? If you have a logon password set, then you would be
prompted for your password when your machine starts, but I don't use
Norton's at all, so I can't say if it is a Norton thing or not.

Subject: [gui-talk] HELP! -- anybody have Norton?

Hi all -- I have a new machine with Norton preinstalled. There is some kind
of password verification that pops up when I log in, and just now the
password manager popped up and wouldn't let me continue until I entered my
password. My question is, does this popup come from Norton utilities, or do
I have a nasty worm on my machine? This machine is brand spanking new and I
have spent most the time working off line, except to read mail.

Could someone familiar with norton please give me an idea how they like it
and what these popups are and how to turn them off?

It seems as though security measures like this decrease security as it
leaves the way open for a copy-cat virus to pup up a window that would ask
for a password and then publicise it.

Anyway, assistance and suggestions welcome.
