[gui-talk] question about the Mac

Mac OS X is certainly a very different operating system from Windows,
with different user interface conventions (e.g. metaphors and keyboard
shortcuts), different applications (e.g. Finder and Safari rather than
Explorer and Internet Explorer). It has a decent built-in screen reader,
called VoiceOver, rather than relying on third-party screen readers for
effective access.
If you want to learn about these things, you might visit:
1. Apple's page about VoiceOver. I'd certainly have a read of the
manual, which is available for download. It's a bit out of date as they
haven't update the page to reflect updates in Leopard, the latest
version of Mac OS X:
http://www.apple.com/accessibility/voiceover/
2. A website about Mac accessibility and the VoiceOver screen reader
maintained by a regular user, with news and resources:
http://lioncourt.com/
Here are two mailing lists full of VoiceOver users:
http://www.MacVisionaries.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss_macvisionaries.com
http://www.freelists.org/list/macvoiceover
Best to search the archives before asking questions.
Although Window-Eyes and JAWS won't work on the Mac OS X, you can run
Windows on your Mac machine alongside Mac OS X, either dual-booting or
running it in a virtual machine.
Hope that helps.

What I'd like to know is how much different is the Mac system, and whether or not Jaws or windows will work with that platform. If there are any blind Mac users who are willing, please contact me off list,. I'm Jaybee Johnson and my email is mailto:jayjohnson62 at bellsouth.net jayjohnson62 at bellsouth.net
