[gui-talk] Accessibility of Windows Mail?

Ray, I confess I didn't arrow down all the way to see if this was addressed
to me, because, well, I don't care to keep hearing that bumper sticker. I
say that with a wry smile, not a hateful one. Trying to get along, here. But
if you're talking to me, I had no reason to be asking them that other stuff.
I don't use that Live Messenger thing, am not involved in Beta anything, and
haven't upgraded to Vista, either. So what I reported was just to the point
in terms of the one thing I cared about, which was IE 7 and OE. Sorry.
That's all I learned.

So, did they say anything at all to you about using the final release
version of Windows Live Mail with JAWS version 7.1 on XP machines? IF not,
I'll ask myself. Come to think of it, I did; but, I think I ask the
question in regard to the beta version...should have known better than that.
Anyhow, we'll see I suppose.

Hi Albert,
I just got off the phone with a well-informed tier 2 tech support person at
FS, and here's what he explained to me about this:

Outlook Express will continue to be bundled with IE 7 when it's installed on
an XP machine. That will not change. So it's not as if, at some time in the
near future, if you download IE7 and install it, suddenly you'll find OE
replaced by the unfamiliar Windows Mail. This just isn't what's going to
happen.

Only when you upgrade to the Vista operating system will the version of
Internet Explorer associated with it present Windows Mail as your new email
client, and there will be a number of different things about how it's used,
just as there are differences with Vista in general. But so long as you stay
with XP, OE 6 will remain the browser associated with IE 7.

To me this is a no brainer! Download I.E. 7 while it has O.E. with it.
Since you can download Windows Live Mail as a separate component for the
present, do that and check it out. I mean, why not play the odds?

hello Ray,
What do you mean by saying "support for OE will die?" Do you mean if I ever
felt the need to write or call Microsoft tech support to help me with some
OE problem, I wouldn't get any answer? that's the first thing I think of as
"support." Now, you may mean something else. Like OE will suddenly stop
working, even if you haven't upgraded to IE 7? Thanks very much. Sometimes I
just don't get the expressions people use, and I really want to understand
this, because I'm using OE, even though I don't ever contact anyone for
support with it.

Thanks very much.

Yes, what you've heard is true. Wen the final release version of Windows
Mail actually comes out via the regular Microsoft update feature, support
for Outlook Express will die. I forget now who; but, somebody else on this
list was saying this should happen perhaps this or next week.

Hello,
Am I missing something here? I try to keep up on things as much as possible
but have not heard anything about this. Is OE going away? Can someone
send a link so I can read more about this please. Thanks,
