Marsha,
Do you believe that Freedom Scientific is monitoring the discussions on all
the tech support mailing lists and using that to take the pulse and
temperature of their customer base, and then setting their corporate and
legal policies according to strategies responsive to those surveys? Do you
think these plans and projections are decided in meetings of corporate
officers, legal staff, and the marketing department? Or how would it
work?for instance, they log an upswing of dissatisfied customer messages on
the tech support lists over a period of several months, and then have a
meeting and decide to bring a lawsuit against another company, after
deciding that doing so will be leaked and blogged about and discussed in
these venues, and that the dissatisfied among the customers will stop
contacting tech support or stop complaining about the product to each other?
Finally, in a strategy like this, where do the state rehab agencies come in?
Because it's they who do the bulk of the purchasing from FS, and so do you
believe that blind people receiving assistance from rehab agencies will
begin to lobby their case workers to purchase other screen readers and
access technology besides that available from FS? If many of those clients
have not yet either used computers or,if previously not blind enough to need
adaptive technology, would they have already been on user tech support
mailing lists and been aware of the complaints against FS?
thanks.
Thanks.

It looks to me like this law suit could be a sort of red hering. It has
deflected our attention from the deep problems which FS has with their
customer service.
Even if there had been several years of discussion, the timing of the
suit is very interesting.
Marsha
