[gui-talk] Fwd: New Trojan Horse Warning

Hi Steve,
Well, for one thing, I'm okay with my antivirus program and firewall. But
I'm pretty sure that the main reason I haven't had any catastrophes
requiring system restoration since I once innocently opened a Happy 99 file
attachment I thought had come from a friend (it had invaded the friend's
address book , of course, a trick I hadn't yet heard about) is because I
simply don't open things like that. That is why I asked this. Seriously. I
would never open an attachment with a ludicrous name without asking the
supposed sender about it.
Besides, if it's a file attachment and says its from Windows, I know to
ignore it now. And if it's an email with a bogus message that wants me to
click on a link and go to some site, I know to ignore that, too. But that's
the first line of defense. Just not biting in the first place. So that's why
I'm trying to find out what these things actually look like, either as
emails or attachments, however they come to people.
Thanks.
As for spyware-- and yes, I do have anti-spyware software of two kinds that
I update and scan with regularly-- what does that have to do with it? I
thought we're talking about a virus that functions as a Trojan Horse, coming
alive when you open a file attachment and only then getting into your
system.

I think the best advice is to make sure your antivirus software is
up-to-date, use a good firewall and make sure you have updates to any
programs you may use to remove spyware.
